Adult ADHD Testing

At ASCEND’s Adult ADHD Clinic, our experienced neurologist uses clinical history, examination, and objective evidence-based computer testing to diagnose and treat the disorder. Diagnosis improves quality of adult life and professional success.

The initial part of the evaluation includes clinical history of education, emotional health, and chronic physical and neurological issues. Family history and medication use are important parts of the history as well. A thorough physical and neurological exam follows along with the ADHD RS-IV self rating scale.

ASCEND Neurology uses an FDA approved computer based test that measures the core symptoms associated with ADHD including hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention/distractibility. These traits are then compared to the results of a non-ADHD group of people of the same age and gender to demonstrate the significance of each symptom. In this way, the clinicians can gather valuable information that helps them tailor the treatment based on each situation.

The test is performed in front of a computer screen and is independent of any language, reading skill level or cultural bias. The test equipment consists of an infrared camera, a headband and a responder button. The entire test should take less than an hour.
